International Day of the Girl Child
It's the International Day of the Girl Child!
Growing up, I didn't notice a different treatment meted to boys and girls. I had a brother and imagined that he was pampered a lot because it was just him. True. If they were two of him, he probably would be a normal child like me and my sister.
Notwithstanding, we were loved and treated equally though his treatment was slightly more equal... Lol. My dad had said he would share his inheritance with his children - all of them. He doesn't subscribe to the opinion of tradition that thinks women shouldn't have a right to inheritance. I have a right to my father's house and property because I'm his child.
My father has a share of communal land but I can't get that because it's not directly his. My brother is now the sole owner of the land. I always say that I would hustle fast and build on the land. I still have intentions of doing that just to prove people wrong. But would the house be demolished if it is built by a woman? Never! So?
If women are treated equally from home, then they'll have more confidence in themselves to withstand the arrows thrown at them in the outside world. The home should nurture the girl child to have a better perception of herself. She's worth more!
The girl child is God's blessing to humanity.
Until you realise it, you may not enjoy it. If I wasn't female, what would have become of me?? ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
To every female I know, I celebrate you💃💃💃
In what ways do you enjoy being female?
