I Lost Father

I lost father,
To the skin melting sun,
To the bed that became home,
The room that felt like a castle,
The clothes that fit no more.

I lost father,
When my hair and clothes could no longer be admired,
When my jokes were not funny enough,
When I could not be shouted at or questioned,
When I couldn't walk down the street holding his hands.

I lost father,
To the smell of drugs,
To the sight of injections
And the drips,
Intravenous, intramuscular, intra everything.
To the surgeries, and impending surgeries.

I lost father,
To the smell of the hospital ward,
To the sound of enthusiastic nurses
To the footsteps of touring doctors,
To the visitors who passed by to say "sorry."

I lost father,
To the plethora of drugs, antibiotics, anti platelets, chemotherapy, supplements, herbal drugs.
To the unending trips to the pharmacy,
To the insatiable appetite for drugs that could relieve,
To the pharmacist we became too 'familiar' with.

I lost father,
To the friendly betrayals,
To the family woes.

I lost father,
To the midnight cries,
To the unending prayers and supplications,
To the fasting and prayers,
To...
To the hopeful days.

I lost father,
To the sound of 'take care of mummy'
And other mumurings I couldn't  make meaning of.

I lost father,
to the wailing of pain.
Not to the sound of deep laughter from his jokes.

I lost father,
To the days we would never spend together.
To the present and future when we'll talk about him in the past.

I lost father,
To the land of the spirits.

I lost father,
To the knowledge of a beginning and an end.

I lost father.
